Problem

The customer required to have 100% parts checked automatically for a specific defect.

Solution

In order to effectively identify the defect, I was tasked with the design and build of the machine with a vision system. The design was made for easy assembly using Solidworks PDM for drawing traceability. Once the design was complete, I worked with contract manufacturers to build the components to specifications. Also, future possible requirements were taken into considerations during design.

Wrote the lock out tag out procedure, SOP, and designed the safety guarding. Collaborated with the electrical engineers to develop the PLC program as well as the vision system for identifying the defects. Being a customer requirement, we met the deadline of 3 months.

Results

Delivered assembly design for over 100 parts according to specification in SolidWorks. Lead the hands-on installation with a tight deadline and budget.
