SAFETY GUARDING

Problem

With the pneumatic and mechanical machinery operating at high speeds, the manufacturing floor is inherently prone to safety hazards. The automated lines for the bearings were designed and manufactured a few decades ago when safety regulations were not strong.

Solution

In order to reduce the risk of the injury to the production workers, I was tasked with the design and hands-on installation of safety guarding. Each design had to be unique because of the minor changes in machine design specifications as well as meet the required safety standards. The design had to be easy for the operator to be handle as well as changeover friendly. The guarding was going to be successful only when the operator liked it. Took the utmost care to understand their needs and incorporated the design changes suggested. I used aluminum extrusion as the material for ease of assembly and to to prevent large downtime during installation.

Result

Designed and installed multiple operator friendly safety guarding on the assembly lines to provide a high level of safety and ergonomic compliance
